Random Tuesday - advice and stickers with a dash of humor

While I was home this weekend, a few weird/funny things happened so I thought for today's random post, I would bullet them out and share a few photos. Gotta love a weekend at home :)

Good advice
I laughed when I saw this note on my parent's oven Sunday night....

Why did I laugh? First off, it's kind of funny, but the reason the note is there in the first place is because we store our birthday cakes in the oven so they don't dry out. One year when the cake was in the oven (sans note), my stepbrother preheated the oven to make a pizza and left the kitchen while the oven was warming up and, well, cooked the cake. Fortunately it didn't do that much damage but now we clearly mark when cake is in the oven to avoid this little disaster. That's a good piece of advice.

Stickers
While celebrating dad's birthday at the ballpark this weekend, a woman approached us while tailgating to solicit money. Normally my dad would say back, "no thanks" or in this case "it's my birthday today, you should give me money," but before he could, the woman started handing out witty stickers. I was excited to see what sticker from her collection she would choose for me and here it is:

I don't know why she chose this particular one for me, spanking is not really my thing, but thanks? Plus did you have to do that in front of my dad and family? Geez, they'll be teasing me for months about this.

One sticker she did have that I specifically requested is:

I know a few people I could give this to :) I might have to make this a blog award icon.

Hope you enjoyed today's randomness. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming shortly.

  1. I <3 those stickers. I'm so making an award to give to my bffs who guest post for me next week. I just have to think of something witty and hilarious... hmmmmmm. At least I have a few days to come up with something.

  2. Haha, those stickers just seem TOO random for soliciting!! What was she trying to do?

My aunt keeps some aluminum foil in the microwave (when it's not being used) to remind her to remove anything metal when she DOES need to use the microwave. I guess she zapped something foil-wrapped one time and completely broke the microwave. So now she keeps her little foil "note" in there at all time to remind herself!

  3. LMAO, my family and I leave weird notes like that too. Good to know we're not the only ones. Great stickers.

  4. Would the "Don't be a dick" sticker count as an award? Because there are a few racist/homophobic bloggers out there who truly deserve such an "award."

Sigh. Why can't the blogosphere consist only of bunnies and puppies?

  5. make it into an award!! why not?!? you are allowed to do whatever you want with your piece of the internet.

but don't give it to me because i'm not a dick.

  6. I think we should all have the "Don't Be A Dick" sticker to hand out on a daily basis. It might make those annoying people a little easier to deal with. :)

  9. Love the note, and I had no idea about keeping cakes moist in the oven!

Also, totally random (goes with the theme, right?) but I saw a tweet about the web site you use to track food and fitness and I'm totally checking it out! I'm not a fan of logging food, I never find exact matches. But, lately I've been thinking it's probably worth trying to see how crappily I really eat! So, thanks for the inadvertent tip!

  10. Those are some interesting stickers! I could really use the second one for all of the jerks I seem to run into :)

  11. One Christmas Eve I could NOT find the top I had bought Diana for the family party. Two days later I went to make cookies and took out the large cookeware that we stored in the oven.....and the top.

  12. Maybe we should bring her to BlogHer next year. OR she could make us some "Show us your boobs!" stickers :)

  13. That's freakin' awesome. I like it when street solicitors kick it up a notch.

  17. I want that last sticker!!!

  18. I had the last sticker when I was in high school. I got it while I was at a warped tour concert. I thought I was so cool because I stuck it in my back windshield and drove around with it on display.

We've done the forget there were brownies with saran wrap on them in the oven bit. Except it smelled so horrible because of the melted plastic. And it was such a pain to get all the melted wrap off the oven racks and the pan.

  19. When we had our house inspected, the inspector turned on the oven. A few minutes later the smell of burning plastic filled the house. Apparently the home owner kept her tupperware in oven. A note like the one you found might have been helpful.

She left the melted tupperware in the oven as a move in present.

  21. Umm, those are all amazing on various levels.

I love the note that's on the fridge. The backstory makes it even better. (:

  22. My name is Donnie and I'm proud to say, I'm a playa here in Chicago.

When I meet women, I like to learn about how they grew up and the relationship they had with with their fathers. They think that I care about their earlier days, but the truth is I'm getting the "S" gauge (spank gauge).

Women who had little fatherly attention (or no father) are the ones who enjoy the spanking. It's a proven psychological fact. They missed out as kids -- so they don't realize they crave it as adults.

    The strategy works. :-)

  23. What the hell was the lady soliciting?! Either way, I'm definitely on for a sticker award!

  24. Spanks! Love it.

I keep all sorts of crap in my oven - specifically cookie sheets and the cookie cooling racks. No point cooling on a hot rack.

    That sounded good.

  25. I have to leave notes like that for my roommate, haha.
