My recent key learnings

Many of my friends ask me for advice on occasion and I always enjoy imparting my words of wisdom or sharing my stories of pure humiliation to help them feel better, or at least help them be glad that they're not me.

Now that it's Sunday and another week is upon us, I'll share with you some things that I learned this weekend.
  • Be careful while opening a bottle of beer when tipsy. The opener can slip and you can cut yourself. I did that
  • Always surround yourself with friends who have dumb luck. My friend Sarah found $40 on the street this weekend, I found a quarter
  • Rock Band is a fun but humbling experience. It reminded me of two things: I am tone deaf and absolutely uncoordinated. It took me three times on drums to make it through a full song, although I do feel my Bon Jovi solo was pretty good
  • It is still flattering when people at the grocery store ask to see your ID when buying alcohol
  • Make the cab driver repeat your location back to you so they don't miss your street
  • Just because your college football team is winning, anything can happen in the last 20 seconds of the game (I hate you Michigan)
  • It's tacky to talk smack about someone when they're standing right next to you. That's just rude - man up and confront them
  • It might be painful, but sometimes you have to be nice to someone, even if they're rude to you
  • Doing laundry at 1:30 a.m. sounds like a good idea - until you have to stay up to finish it
  • Being sober around drunk people is not fun, it's obnoxious
  • A wine/beer headache can still be there when you wake up the next day
  • Road rage comes back pretty quickly, even if you don't drive on a regular basis
  • The right pair of jeans (here's what I'm loving lately) can give you a huge confidence boost and make your hips shake a little like Shakira
  • Putting food in front of a friend's face and saying "eat it!" can actually get them to, well eat what you want them to
So those are my lessons from this weekend. It was a flurry of activity.

Any words of wisdom that you would like to share from your weekends? I hope everyone had a good one!

  1. I totally agree with you about the jeans. Nothing feels better than finding the perfect pair of jeans that make you feel hot, especially if you're like me and it takes months to find them!

  2. My words of wisdom would be to breathe deeply. Getting carded to buy wine will make my day every. single. time.

  3. I just bought jeans from the gap that are similar and i totally love.

i learned how good it really feels/tastes to buy everything locally. i will be depressed when it's too cold for the farmers market!

  4. I also hate the University of Michigan and love Gap jeans. Clearly we were meant to be friends.

  5. Today has been about recovering from my beer/wine hangover. Not fun.

I love those jeans. I am in desperate need for new jeans too.

  6. Just recently fell in love with new jeans too and as an avid Ohio State fan, I think I was born loathing Michigan.

What I learned this weekend, coffee with an old friend is one of the best things ever.

  7. showering at least every 2 days helps. LOL

  8. I can't count how many times I broke the no laundry past midnight rule in college.
    Yay for Gap Jeans!

  9. My advice: Don't talk to ex-boyfriends no matter how good of an idea it sounds like at the time. It will only make you feel like crap.

  10. Ooh, I just bought these a couple weeks ago!

    They are SUPER flattering.

  11. Ending a week long juice fast with McDonalds kinda defeats the purpose.

  12. Not so much a lesson, but a reminder:

Summer veges are so much better than Winter ones, and I've really missed salad. And asparagus (mmm asparagus).

  13. My 16 year old self would like to tell you that you should never try to open a bottle of beer with you teeth.

  14. Great list. I'll be sure to keep all of this in mind. Congrats on successfully playing the drums! 20 some odd songs later and I still can't get through a full song on them!

  15. I love little lessons like this. I've done three on my blog so far :)

  16. went out to the shooting range... realized that my bad habit of getting too close to the charging handle has only gotten worse when the scope decided to snap me in the eye ow!

  17. I shouldn't watch football, because even when my team was the underdog, I feel bad for the loser.

Like, really bad - to the point where I'm all, "They look so cruuuushed! Poor guys - they're only in college. They have so much pressure on them, it must be SO HARD."

(Um, go blue. ;-) It was a cheap win, but a win.)

  18. Amen to being the only sober one around drunks. No fun. I did that a lot through college. This weekend, though? Not a chance in hell.

And I second the bottle opener thing, too. That just sounds like something I would do. :/

  19. Sounds like a FUN weekend. My words of advice based on my weekend? Certifiably crazy uncles (and not in a good way) don't become less crazy just because they are one state away and supposedly on vacation.

  20. Honestly, you crack me up, Jess:D

I love Jeans, I can't live without them, and your weekend made me want to to get Rock Band for my birthday that's for sure!

    xoxo

  21. that football game was crazy (sorry, I am from Michigan) if it's any consolation--we were all shocked. haha

  22. 1. Hash out pricing before providing a service.

    2. Make sure you bracket enough time in between plans, or you're going to have to cut someone short while still running late to meeting someone else. Lose-lose all the way, and you'll wind up cranky and sweaty.

    3. The line of teenagers wanting Frappuccinos on a Friday night is unreal.

    4. Also, the low-rise jeans on aforementioned teenagers? Too low for my taste.

    5. Baked apple pancakes and strong coffee make gray days absolutely lovely.

  23. Perhaps you should invest in cans of beer? But what do I know? I'm a wine-drinker. Or vodka. Yeah!
I feel I must investigate Gap jeans once again...

  24. Lol...The drums on RB are the hardest instrument to conquer! But once you get it, they are the most fun!

Also, you're totally right about jeans! I'll spend my paycheck if they make me not only look good, but FEEL good.

  25. I think the number one rule has to be never be sober around drunk people. By the end of the night, you want to shoot yourself in the face. I either just say no to going out, or just say yes to getting drunk too. Stick with that, it works.

  26. 1. Your last bullet point has been noted in my brain for future use.

    2. I know what you mean with the late night/early morning laundry.

    3. Sorry for the lost but that was a desperately needed win for Michigan. For the team and us fans alike. Can't we all agree to hate Ohio State?

    ReplyDelete
  27. what smart words of wisdom, you should write a book. not even kidding, haha. i learned that no matter how good your football team is they can still lose to an unranked team (damn you usc, damn you) :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. what i learned this weekend: no matter how adorable a brother/sister duo can be, they will still argue themselves (and the person who is watching them) into sheer exhaustion.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You should also be careful when you're trying to show off by opening a beer bottle with your arm fat. Or so I've heard...

    ReplyDelete
  30. The right jeans definitely make a difference! Every time I wear my William Rast's people ask if I've lost weight.

And as an IU fan I also hate any team from Michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bon Jovi is everywhere. The Temple University band played Livin' on a Prayer in its half-time show.

I learned to stay at the ballpark bar after a major win until they bust out the free alcohol. Unfortunately I learned this after we left before getting free drinks.

  32. When it rains, it effing pours.

That was what I learned this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good lessons. I'd like to add that being drunk around sober people also sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i have been stalking your blog for about a week now. it's awesome, i enjoy it. :) go rockin' chicago girls! i love the Bell jeans from the gap -- a little '70s, but so flattering for my curvy lower half.

my fave song to do on rock band is 'heroes' by david bowie.

  35. lmao! these are all great! my weekend consisted of going to see janet in concert (awesome) and starting a china collection...i know it sounds old lady-ish but whatevs. also ran into an ex. oy.
