We're almost a week before Thanksgiving and I'm pretty excited about the upcoming holiday season. But one of my pet peeves is how early some stores begin to celebrate the holidays. Christmas items should not be brought out before Thanksgiving.
But tonight on my way home, I noticed several stores on Michigan Avenue already are decorated for Christmas and two people on my street already have their tree decorated in their apartments. If it wouldn't get me arrested, I would throw a pebble at their windows and yell, "it's too early for that to be up!"
Despite this pet peeve, I do love it when the new Gap holiday ads come out, mostly because I know it's time to work on my Christmas list. Last year, I loved Amy Poehler and Will Arnett's ad - look how cute they are!
And Gap did me a HUGE favor by putting yummy John Krakinski in one too. That's tacked up at my desk. Meow!
Below are some pictures from this year's Gap ads (including one of Jon Hamm aka Mr. Don Draper). If you have some time to kill, check out the Merry Mix-it page at Gap.com, which has this year's models/celebs singing carols. The one with Rainn Wilson and Selma Blair is adorable.
So my question to everyone is, if you had to pick someone for a holiday ad, preferably someone sprawled on a bearskin rug, who would you pick?
The Jason Bateman one was on the back of the magazine I was just reading!
ReplyDeleteI would choose Jake Gyllenhaal personally.
I feel like we skipped Thanksgiving and went straight from Halloween to Christmas! I LOVE Thanksgiving! Slow down!!! :) But great ads!!!

ReplyDeleteEasy. Either Scott Speedman or Jude Law or Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
ReplyDeleteI also love those Gap ads.
Jason Bateman om nom nom! I also loved the ones with the SNL boys.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you!! I hate the fact that we have to see Halloween deco in August and Chirstmas in end of October. The vocab "anticipation" does not exist anymore?
ReplyDeleteI like Amanda Peet last year.. She look amazingly beautiful with her newborn baby...
I love those Gap Holiday ads - they all look cute!!!
I kind of love the Christmas ads too, I've got to admit. I would kind of love to have James McAvoy in them, he's my new hero.
ReplyDeleteOmg you have the love my life tacked onto your wall! Ok, ok, I guess I can't be too upset.
ReplyDeleteYes yes, the John K one or the Ben Barnes one on the front page of the website....mmmmmmm Prince Caspian
ReplyDeleteAlthough, like Daisy, i'm having a bit of a James McAvoy thing at the moment. Damn him being married!
Whoever doesn't say Jason Bateman is dead inside.
ReplyDeleteAw guys with their kids are so cute. We don't have thanksgiving over here! I feel like we're missing out on a holiday.
ReplyDeleteI dont mind the stores decorating for Christmas as much as I mind people in their own homes. I understand its easier to put up lights when its warmer (which I am cool with), but is it really necessary to plug the lights in and light up?
ReplyDeleteAs someone who works parttime in retail... my store has already started holiday. last sunday. it's annoying. at least we don't have to listen to christmas music until black friday.
ReplyDeleteanyway... my vote is for john hamm (LOVE HIM), steven colbert, or maybe possible james mcavoy. he's yummy.
jason bateman, will you marry me?
ReplyDeletealso side note, my little sister was on of the production managers on all of the gap holiday ad shoots for the last two years.
yes, she has a sweet job.
I always love the GAP ads...
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the John Hamm hanging up anywhere? I WANT DON DRAPER HANGING IN MY ROOM!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Gap holiday ads!
ReplyDeleteI'm writing an article on this campaign and it makes me nauseus. The marketing people at GAP are so peppy it would make you want to kill puppies.
ReplyDeleteI love the Gap ads too! I can see a Gap billboard from my window and I notied they changed it last week to a holiday ad. And Macy's on State unveiled their Xmas windows when - like two weeks ago? Way too early!
ReplyDeleteI looove the Gap ads! They had some with the cast of Gossip Girl--not official for Gap I don't think but they are rocking the Gap scarves in all of them and Ed Westwick looks particularly adorable!
ReplyDeletei totally agree with the decorating too early thing, i can't even begin to think about christmas decs until after thanksgiving. but i swear every store has their stuff up right after halloween.
ReplyDeleteas for the gap ad, i would love to see my newest crush, rob pattinson all decked out, mmmmm. :)
these are so adorable! i must admit i do love gaps ads. i'd love to see angie..i mean, angelina jolie in one...but i'm just in love with her so go figure. or brad...or jada and her daughter - that'd be cute.
ReplyDeleteI just to be friends with John Krasinski. And blow up that ad and hang it on my wall. I'm sure my boyfriend wont mind. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the early Christmas decorations? piss me off!! It used to be that Christmas season ONLY started once Santa rode down 34th street at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. What happened to that????
I just found you and LOVE your blog! YAY! It just made my day :o)
ReplyDeleteI lurve the Jason Bateman one!
ReplyDeleteJohn Krasinski is delicious, and my other major crush is John Stewart.
ReplyDeleteI love Gap Ads... I mean i'm a little partial to last years b/c JK was featured...but I'll take a dose of this year's too.
ReplyDeleteYou know who they should feature next?
Saved By the Bell stars.
and by saved by the bell stars I mean Zach and AC Slater. Yum.
Or NCIS. I love the men of NCIS too.
I have a serious weakness for scarves and these ads don't help!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the irritating habit for people to freak out about Christmas before Thanksgiving has even come. No decorations are so cool that we need them up for 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I do want to see these ads.
John and Jason are both yummy! Christmas decorations are everywhere here in NJ already. And one of our local radio stations started playing all Christmas music a week ago! I couldn't believe it. Every year they push Christmas on us sooner and sooner. At this rate by 2012 Christmas decorations will go up before the kids go back to school
ReplyDeleteaw how cute! I love those Gap ads, too! I would pick Christian Bale ; )
ReplyDeleteI was in target the other day and they were playing Christmas music already. It stressed me out.
ReplyDeleteI am all for John Krakinski too. Love him!
I love the GAP holiday ads. The commercials are great too..I remember the one from about 6-7 years ago where Shaggy is singing..."give a little bit...give a little bit of your love to me!"
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE fan of John Krasinski, too. Though I love, love, LOVE that photo of Rainn Wilson. (It makes me wish I had taken it -- too fun!)
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel the same way about Christmas decorations going up before Thanksgiving. Just for the record.
Those Gap ads are ROCKING.
