Which means, in true Bachelor fashion, it's time to have a DVR rose ceremony and I need your help.
(I just grabbed this image to fit the post topic, I don't think he is attractive)
I've listed below some shows that could be on the cutting block from my DVR series manager.
Let me know what shows should receive a rose tonight and what can be sent packing. I've already eliminated Best Week Ever, so it's time to do some mid-winter cleaning.

- Daily Show (still a Colbert Report addict!)
- My Name is Earl
- Grey's Anatomy
- Samantha Who?
- Real Housewives of Orange County (the ladies are getting on my nerves)
- Say Yes to the Dress
- Fringe
- Scrubs
- Nip/Tuck
- 90210
- Ace of Cakes
- Iron Chef America
- Chuck
So now you know what might have to leave my DVR family, but what show(s) would you never remove from your TV schedule? Or, if you have DVR, can you imagine watching TV without it ever again?
Mine absolute keepers include: Top Chef, the Office and 30 Rock. Definitely the Office, even though it hasn't been so great lately. Grumble, grumble. Fingers crossed the Super Bowl episode doesn't suck.
Reader note: Wow. I was completely blown away at the response to Tuesday's crying post. I agree with many of the comments, specifically that it doesn't make you weak and of course, if you can wait to cry in private, that's preferred. But sometimes when the urge comes, you can't stop it. If I cry in front of people, I end up crying more because I'm mad that I'm crying and can't stop myself. It's a weird triangle of emotion.
In response to those who feel crying at work does make you weak, I see your point, to a certain extent. I hope that we can all agree that crying in private or with your closest friends is the best way to do it, if that's an option :)
And welcome to all the new commenters! It was great to hear from you.

the only ones on that list i watch are :
ReplyDeleteMy Name is Earl
Grey's Anatomy
90210
Ace of Cakes
Iron Chef America
so those would be my picks to keep.
I've always loved Chuck, but this year it has joined the ranks of my top favorite shows, so I would never let go of it! I love Samantha Who? even though it has been so long since they showed the last episode. I don't even remember what was going on! As for Iron Chef America, I think it's a fun show, but I'm not committed to it--I just watch it when there's nothing else on or it looks like a particularly interesting show down. Grey's... I don't know, I feel like I've been watching it for too long to just walk out on it, and now that they've finally had Izzy come to the realization that she's not actually having ghost sex, I'm interested to see how they dig themselves out of the sinkhole they've gotten into.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the shows, I'd totally give a rose to. Especially 90120, ugh, I just hate those kids so much! And I generally love shows about spoiled, rich kids (see: Priveledged, Gossip Girl, 90210 original flavor, The OC, etc)
whew! You do have a lot of TV shows. :)
ReplyDeletePersonally - I couldn't not watch:
30 Rock or The Office.
That's all. :) (And I totally agree about The Office. It needs to improve. And quickly)
I do enjoy The Daily Show, Scrubs, and The Biggest Loser, though!
Sorry, I'm not much help. I don't own a DVR and I don't watch a whole lot of tv. I used to never miss Private Practice and Greys. Grey's was just too weird for me and I've gotten away from it. I do enjoy a good Say Yes To The Dress Marathon on Lifetime on occasion. :-) Good luck deciding!
ReplyDeleteIf I was you I would give a rose to:
ReplyDelete-Scrubs
-Daily Report
-Ad even tho their catty bitches, Rela Housewives.
Shows I could never get rid of:
(technically I can't watch them on DVR but I do watch religously online):
-The Office
-How I Met Your Mother
The Real Housewives are such a guilty pleasure of mine. But, they are a show that I can watch as reruns. You can cut that one out.
ReplyDeleteBut keep Scrubs.
Keep Chuck!!!
ReplyDeleteooh I'd keep Grey's and Iron Chef. I never really watched any of the other ones. Alas 90% of those shows aren't even ON in Australia. I just got a DVR and am slowly discovering it's joys.
ReplyDeleteWe have a DVR but I have never used it because I don't know how. It probably prevents me from wasting hours upon hours... that I would otherwise spend surfing the Internet.
ReplyDeleteLet's see...the Daily Show is certainly funny, but I don't DVR it. I stopped watching Grey's after the writer's strike. I still DVR Chuck....and I don't watch any of the other shows you listed.
ReplyDeleteWhat can't be removed from my schedule? Jeopardy (I know, I'm a huge nerd), Mythbusters (still a nerd)...and that's really about it.
I have a Comcast DVR and, well, I don't love it. The Tivo that is sitting all alone and unused (even though we're still paying the monthly fee...gotta get on the husband about that) is where my heart is at. Nothing can compare to my Tivo.
My tivo gets so jammed packed at times it can be stressful. Thank god that some shows are played twice in one night. Nip/Tuck is on at the same time as 2 other shows I watch but good thing FX repeats the episode at like midnight.
ReplyDeleteI would never get rid The Office, 30 Rock and How I met your mother.
My tive is a very hard worker.
shows to go
ReplyDeletechuck
say yes to the dress
90120
Shows to keep
30 rock
big bang theory
bill maher
Wow, the only show I watch out of that list is Greys, so I suppose I would give a rose to that one. I think the only reason my list isn't longer is that I have a hard time getting into new shows because I've already got "so many" on my plate. But then, they go off the air after awhile, I happen to Netflix them, and then become addicted and kick myself for not getting into them when they were actually on air and relevant.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'm not a Chuck, 90210, Say Yes to the Dress, or My Name is Earl fan.
ReplyDeleteSoo those would be my picks to go. But, ya know, I'm biased.
I'm totally with you, my Tivo needs a rose ceremony too. My votes are to say au revoir to Say Yes to the Dress, Real Housewives (because it reairs on Bravo like 20x/week), and Ace of Cakes. But saying goodbye is soo hard!
ReplyDeleteThe Office and 30 Rock are never leaving my DVR. NEVER. I couldn't really get into My Name Is Earl. I dunno, not my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI also have on my DVR: Ace of Cakes, The Universe, Scrubs, and most recently Lie To Me. The last one mainly because I want to learn how to detect liars. Otherwise I'd most likely hate that show and never watch it, I just think the little factoids about expressions is interesting.
Get rid of:
ReplyDeleteReal Housewives of Orange County (the ladies are getting on my nerves)
Say Yes to the Dress
90210
Ace of Cakes
You can catch all of those on reruns. Even 90210 on Wednesday nights if you don't watch Lost. If you're inclined to reruns, the Daily Show is always on at like 3:00 every day, but you're probably still at work. :)
Sidenote: The bachelor that you posted the pic of is actually from austin (same as me) and owns 3 bars and was working the door of the bar I went to Saturday night. Randomness.
ReplyDeleteI think that 90210 could go, I watch it, but yeah, it's subpar. Also Real Housewives of Orange County, I've watched it a few times but it's not really DVR worthy, more like random saturday afternoon worthy.
Good Luck!
i would get rid of say yes to the dress only because i have no idea what that show is! ha
ReplyDeleteI would never get rid of my 3rd Rock, How I met your mother, Scrub and Gossip Girl. Also CSI (vegas - is anyone watching still?) and ER (Don't laugh, please). Daily Show is great too!
ReplyDeleteI can live witout; 90210 and every series of Real Housewives..
I have more to list, but I'll stop here:)
30 Rock, Scrubs, TDS, and the Colbert Report are the only shows I can't be without. They would, forever and ever amen, get my rose. Say Yes to the Dress is my guilty pleasure. Sorry to say I don't watch the other.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Best Week Ever was good? What happened?
I don't have DVR (because my dad is selfish and deletes anything I record on "his tv") but if I did, my shows would be..
ReplyDeleteTool Academy
Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives
Iron Chef
Double Shot at Love
Grey's Anatomy
Private Practice
Samantha Who
Secret Life of the American Teenager
Lost
Geez.. I watch way too much TV.
Don't don't don't get rid of Grey's!! And what's a DVR?
ReplyDeleteI would get rid of Real Housewives, 90210, and Say Yes to the Dress.
ReplyDeleteI have to have Daily Show, Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds, and House.
How did we live before DVR?
Daily Show, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, and Iron Chef of America should all get roses.
ReplyDeleteI either don't watch the other shows or have never heard of them like Say Yes to the Dress.
I don't watch a lot of the shows in your list. But, IMHO, Grey's Anatomy should've gotten chopped years ago. I stopped watching after Season One. Story lines - old. Characters - shallow. Acting - boring. Blah.
ReplyDeleteReal Housewives of OC kind of crack me up. It drives my husband mad when I watch the show (yet he never insists we change the channel - hmmmm). I also like watching Say Yes to the Dress - gotta love the crazy NY sales ladies. hahah. And Ace of Cakes? OMG - we love Duff in our house. Our wedding cake person is actually friends with Duff, which makes us love him more!
I don't DVR any of those shows so I feel like I can't give them a fair trial! :)
ReplyDeleteI do DVR 30 Rock and The Office for SURE...and my guilty pleasure is Rock of Love Bus. It's a train wreck...I can't look away.
Who am I going to discuss the real housewives with??? don't ax it!!!
ReplyDeletealso, since it's not on the list does that mean you're keeping The City?
Watching Real Housewives (of any location) is like watching a train wreck...purge yourself of that demon!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch many shows regularly, and my only "must see" is House. From your list I would hang onto Fringe and Nip/Tuck.
ReplyDeleteSecret Diary of a Call Girl, Entourage, Gossip Girl, Priviledged (guilty, guilty pleasure) and newly added is the United States of Tara-new show and it's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSecret Diary of a Call Girl, Entourage, Gossip Girl, Priviledged (guilty, guilty pleasure) and newly added is the United States of Tara-new show and it's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI love Chuck and Scrubs. I'd be lost without my DVR. My husband doesn't like Ghost Whisperer, so I record it and watch when he's not around. Whoever invented the DVR is a genius!
ReplyDeletei say you keep:
ReplyDeletegrey's
fringe
scrubs
ace of cakes
say yes to the dress
i'm a sucker for all of them, so of course i'll pick them, haha.
DVR is a blessing and a curse! Without going into details, we had to trade our TiVo for an AT&T DVR and while the DVR isn't as smart as the TiVo, I can now record four shows at once instead of two. If you can only do two at a time, I recommend investigating which shows air repeats at odd times--like Iron Chef and Real Housewives--and amending your recording schedule. But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't eliminate Fringe. What a great show!
ReplyDeleteIf I had DVR my shows would be The Office and Thirty Rock and Big Love. Oh, and Family Guy. Of your list I would definitely keep Samantha Who - I luurrvve that show.
ReplyDeleteI must watch The Offfice but the BEST show on tv is Friday Night Lights. I also watch Nip/Tuck, Greys (although I end up ff through at least half of it) and Housewives. The rest I can totally do without.
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I gave you an award!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you would cut Chuck or Scrubs from your DVR! I love those shows! And I do agree about the Office not being so good lately! Hopefully the season will pick up tonight!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late on this, but you can't get rid of The Daily Show (Jon Stewart is my fake boyfriend - he's so funny), 30 Rock, The Office, and Scrubs. I really like Samantha Who? too though...
ReplyDeleteAnd Grey's is up and down lately....
My suggestions:
ReplyDeleteGrey's Anatomy - if Izzy doesn't die in the next three episodes and ABSOLUTELY if that annoying ghost comes back and she has sex with him. Ugh.
Samantha Who? - the way they stereotypically portray the fat girl really bothers me.
Real Housewives of Orange County (the ladies are getting on my nerves) - New York is coming back, I would stick with that one and get rid of the blond bimbo's.
Never watched, but maybe my DVR will give them a chance:
Say Yes to the Dress
Fringe
Ace of Cakes
Chuck
Good luck!
Keep Chuck.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely add How I Met Your Mother to the mix.
<3 your blog.
American Idol
ReplyDeleteBig Bang Theory
Fringe
Gossip Girl
Heroes
How I Met Your Mother
Lost
Two and a Half Men
Can't wait for Dollhouse
Okay, I think Say Yes to the Dress should be sent packin.. NOT because I don't like it (because I do) BUT you can catch the reruns on and it's not the type of show you NEED to watch every week.
