The solution for a bad day

I had a pretty rough day last week from start to finish. It was my first day back from a long weekend and it was already a short week because of the 4th of July, so the cards were already stacked against me.

Oh and let's add major hormones on top of that too because that always helps you relax and think rationally.

And for the final cherry on top, I paid my credit card bill, which had some charges from my vacations. I nearly passed out after hitting the "make payment" button online. It was tough.

So I thought about how I would turn around my lousy day and asked Twitter the following question:

Today's the kind of day that requires one of the following:
  • Alcohol
  • M&Ms (love cold plain M&Ms)
  • Coffee cake in the dark (soothing)
  • All of the above
And here were some of the responses:

It is official, I have awesome Twitter friends.

To avoid getting too drunk, I ended up going with the M&Ms in the dark. Next time I will have coffee cake, alcohol and cigarettes in a glass box in my apartment to break in case of emergencies.

I just have to remember to replenish the emergency reserve. I always forget that part.

So what would you choose from that list to help you unwind? Or what do you do to help relax after a bad day?

  1. I have amazing coworkers and we're all counselors- so I guess that's a plus, because we just vent to each other or grab a drink after work. Otherwise going for a walk, dancing to music or sometimes just crawling into bed for a nap will help me unwind :)

  2. Comfy clothes always helps when I get home from a bad day and some really good TV and wine. Or maybe a dance party like I just had. A dance party is fun even if you don't have a bad day though.

  3. I take pup on a long walk. Especially in the evening, it usually has cooled off a little bit and it's just relaxing.

  4. Working out helps me if I have an absolutely awful day. But to relax I like to listen to music, read and basically just sit. Exciting, eh? Oh and for comfort food - chips and cookies. Always.

  5. I would probably go with coffee cake and the M&M's.

    Gosh, now I want them!

I hope this week goes better for you! =)

  6. I totally understand!!

I came home and promptly put a huge spoon in a jar of frosting, then ate a Happy Meal. And I feel better!!

  7. I know you people think I'm a champagne-a-holic, but really? That's probably what I'd have done. I had a BAD week a few years ago - as did my then-roommate. We bought two bottles of champagne and made lists - WRITTEN DOWN - of all the things we had worth celebrating. Killed the bad mood pretty quickly.

Though that coffee cake in the dark thing? MUST TRY.

  8. Def go with just the booze. If you do all of the above you'll be drunk and have wasted chocolate. Save it for later.

  9. My favorite sweatshirt from college, a Bud Select bottle and a bag of Baked Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles. Nothing better!

  10. Coffee cake in the dark. With a steaming cup of my favourite tea.

To unwind I usually have a cup of tea, change into my comfies, and read or watch a box set DVD (usually Friends or Gilmore Girls...or Buffy...)

  11. Peanut Butter M&Ms would be my choice. But to save my waste line... I second LBluca77 on the dance party. Also, I like to watch a favorite movie, usually some chick flick.

  13. i listen to angry music like Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff"... helps get the emotions out of me so i can feel normal again.

  14. I'd go for the M&Ms or plain cadbury chocolate.

  15. After a hard day...I either go get something special for me...aka shopping. Or I come home, relax on the front porch and just listen to the cows and birds. Also something very bad for you with a lot of carbs!! I love carbs!!!!

  16. Alcohol.

    Yes, I am an alcoholic.

However, because beer isn't good for you, I have switched over to WINE.

But now, seeing that my summer isn't a summer at all, I will be spending it outside at the beach, or playing tennis, or playing baseball, or walking.

  17. Blah for your lame day although I think being a chocoholic I'd have gone for M&Ms plus coffee cake. Might go add you to twitter now...!

  18. The key to overcoming the food urge is to cook or bake for someone else.

I, too, love M&Ms but my abs sure as hell don't. So when it comes time to nosh on some M&Ms, I make cupcakes instead.

Find an old lady who lives near you, one with no visitors. Make her cupcakes. With M&Ms on top. At least it goes to a good destination. Better than your thighs and ass, right?

    P.S. I prefer almond M&Ms.

  19. m&m...
but they typically lead to boozing it up for me!

  20. i'm gonna alter your list:

    peanut m&ms
    plum coffee cake
passion tea (not the iced stuff, it's gotta be hot)

all together would be even better!

  21. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but going to the gym helps me relax. Swimming laps and just focusing on movements and breathing and the water around me... very cleansing. And I feel virtuous after.

  22. I would go with peanut or almond M&Ms, or chocolate-covered nuts of any brand.
Chocolate always makes me feel better. Or maybe a cookie!

  23. I'm such an old lady. I love a good cup of tea on days like that! Of course, M&M's are always welcome to join me and my cup of tea.

  24. Tough choices!

But I'd have to go with a glass of white wine and a slice of coffee cake. Ah, heaven...

  25. Coffee cake in the dark and alcohol with it, add a trashy movie and you have the best mood pick up ever. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Layin down and listening to some music is my best medicine.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lately my vice of choice after some stress is some Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy on the patio with my neighbor, mocking whatever situation it happens to be.

That or I talk to the dog about it. Which is nice, b.c she doesn't ever tell anyone. hehe..

  28. Chocolate. Always chocolate.
Bonus if it's a chocolate martini.
Come to STL and we'll go to the Chocolate Bar. Both Bar & Dessert Bar =)

Hope this week is better for you!

  29. i would probably go with the wine and m&ms option for that one :)

hope your day was a million times better today!

  30. My combo would have been wine and m&m's. I had one of those moments myself not too long ago. It wasn't fun.

  32. Oof! vacations hit the credit cards the worst!
