And now that we're officially in 2009, I'm thinking about resolutions. Normally, I don't make them because I rarely keep them, and this year because of my list, I'll forgo the laundry list of things I will do differently and keep it simple with two main goals.
In 2009, I want to really do two things:
- Be happy
- Stay healthy
As a note, I'm not saying that I'm currently unhappy. Overall, I am a happy person who looks at life with a "glass half full" mentality, so to help me stay on this path in 2009, I want to challenge myself (with my list and beyond) and continue working on things in my personal and professional life. And reminding myself that I can't let the little things bother me, it will keep me grounded and focused.
So goal #1 is to keep being me but remaining happy and content. I'm grateful for my friends, family, good health and a good job, so as long as I can focus on these things, the rest will follow.
For goal #2, well I'm leaving that one a little vague. Sure, I would love to lose 10 pounds and say that I will work out four times a week, but I'm looking at this on a bigger scale. It's eating more in moderation and watching portion control, it's keeping a better balance of healthy vs. unhealthy foods and allowing myself a treat without turning it into a candy binge. It's all about baby steps.
Looking back, 2008 was a big year with big milestones - especially during the summer months - and I'm hoping 2009 is just as good. I learned a lot and met a lot of new people, and I hope the new friendships I've forged are just as strong next year as they are now.
Did any of you make New Year's resolutions or goals? If so, feel free to share them, I would love to hear what everyone else is going to be working on this year!
Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI like your resolutions. Simple and to the point. Yet it's those that are usually the hardest to accomplish. I hope you reach them.
As for my resolutions I'm just glad I didn't create 10 of them this year like I have in the past.
I think those are pretty realistic! I try to meet those same goals every year, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals for the New Year! Those are exactly what I have in mind too :)
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals. I don't really set concrete resolutions, but I do have things that I try to keep in mind -- like keeping an open mind and trying new things.
ReplyDeleteNice Goals! I think its funny that you mention being happy. That was the topic on Oprah today and the people that scored the highest on happiness scale, like a 34 out of 35, said their tips were to surround yourself with positive things( law of attraction) and to realize not how successful your life is, but how significant you are in it. :) Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI haven't really made any resolutions this year but the two you mention are always ongoing projects for me! Good luck with them!
ReplyDeleteI just posted mine, and it's funny how similar we look at this new year... glad there were no bloody noses!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you have a good head on your shoulders! Those are some awesome resolutions. Happy 09!
ReplyDeleteoh you can so do those goals jessica - and happy new year : )
ReplyDeleteI really like this idea, it's more like your year has a theme now than you're trying to stay on top of a zillion forgettable items. You can totally stay on this!
ReplyDeletethe staying healthy part is going to be key for me this year. every year i give an earnest shot and then, my insatiable craving for all things breaded and carb-loaded takes over.
ReplyDeleteI have very similar resolutions - especially the be healthy one. I'm with you on the baby steps. I'm just focusing on portion control and getting in some good workouts.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2009! I think it's good to have more open resolutions, then if they need to be adjusted in the next 12 months...they can!
ReplyDeleteI think those are good goals, and if you reach them, you're guaranteed a happier life :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the be happy and healthy. I'm going to try to eat more fruits and veggies.
ReplyDeletetreats are my number one problem. That probably stems from the fact that I used to work in a candy store where we were allowed to eat whatever we wanted while we were working.
ReplyDeleteI have a running list of goals! I printed them out and posted them in my room to remind me to stay on track. I've been pretty good at avoiding my room this year...which reminds me, I gotta exercise. *Grumble*
ReplyDeleteI'd say those are some pretty good life missions right there!
ReplyDeleteI think those are awesome resolutions--and definitely achievable! Good luck with both of them :)
ReplyDeleteThose two goals for the new year are fantastic, and two great, achievable things you can do! They're on my list, as well!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! May this one be better than the last!
Happy New Year! :) I hear you re: being healthy... something I have definitely not been the past couple weeks!! (but I'm been VERY happy, mmm chocolate! lol)
ReplyDeleteaww lots of luck with the resolutions sweety :) I am sure you dont need it but there you go! xx
