Join me on a recap of my date

Normally, I'm not a nervous wreck before dates, but before date #2 with JohnBoy, I was seriously freaking out.

Yes, our first date went well and yes, I do like him, but I haven't made it to date #2 with a guy in a long time so the fact that we made it to the second round, made me feel a little self-conscious.

So I obsessed over the weather all day, wondering if our wine/cheese picnic in Millennium Park with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as the background music would be ruined and what was a suitable plan B. The reason I also obsessed over plan B is because JohnBoy told me he had one but wouldn't tell me what it is, which of course makes me want to know ALL THE MORE.

And despite some drizzles, we still picnicked for a while, enjoying good conversation and some nice music. Seriously the concerts at the Pritzker Pavilion are nice.

Oh and I happened to accidentally spill wine all over my flip flop (classy) and JohnBoy decided to just kiss me early so it wasn't awkward at the end of the nice. Um.......yeah I'm okay with that. And it was nice. So I went back for another one and then grinned like an idiot when he said he'd been thinking about that all week.

OMFG who says stuff like that? I've never had a guy be this nice and respectful to me....ever?

So when the rain picked up, I took my Chardonnay-soaked flip flop with me and we headed to Gioco in the South Loop for dinner. More good conversation, plus ricotta and spinach tortellini followed and then suddenly it was 11 p.m. and I couldn't see out of my left eye because my contact lens decided to quit working on me, without notice.

That was the sign that it was time to go home. And after another awkward moment in the car (because car hugging/kiss goodbye can be uncomfortable), he walked me to my front door. And went in for another kiss. Nice work, way to lock that evening up. And he had the "stop-talking-because-i'm-going-to-kiss-you" look all over his face :)

This is a man ladies. A man who makes plans and goes for the first move. Helllllllo!

So we plan to meet up when he's back from his week-long vacation and take it from there. So yeah, I think there might be a date #3 coming up!

Oh and he told me more than once how nice I looked. Tee hee.

So the question for tonight is, what is your idea of a perfect date? Feel free to "plan" it here!

Yay! This guy sounds great! The perfect date for me is more about the person and the chemistry than what you do. And yours sounds fabulous!

i'm so excited for you! go girl, go! personally, i don't care what i do with j, as long as i'm with him. we could be running to a fancy restaurant all dressed up and getting drenched while it's raining and we'd have a blast. we could just go to the park with a pitcher of lemonade and some cookies and life would be prefect. it's really about who you're with, and it sounds like this guy is awesome. let's hope he doesn't have any weird skeletons in his closet! yay! i'm so happy for you!!

I'm really happy for you, you so deserve to be happy and he sounds like a great guy. How about going dancing for the third date, no? Or having wines at ( preferably ) a rooftop bar when it can be super romantic at night? You've done watching the performance thing so I'm pretty clueless. I'm sure it will be great though :)

That date sounds absolutely perfect! And very classy. Orchestra? yeah thats classy. I'm not much of a dater but of the handful I've had, they usually include dinner and drinks. Cause everyone needs a little booze to loosen up the nerves!

I'm sooo excited for you that date #2 went so well! he sounds even better than the first time you wrote about him.

my ideal date? umm, I don't have any specific activities, but chemistry makes or breaks the date.

I can't focus on my perfect date since this post just made me smile. Score one for John Boy! I think I like him and don't even know him.

I hope it continues to go well.

It's great to find a guy who is refreshingly gentlemanly, right?

Tortellini makes my clothes come off.

Not really. But scallops do.

Just kidding, that was a lie, too. I'm not THAT easy!

My best date ever was one that was pretty darn spontaneous. Dinner was planned, but afterward we went to a bar and shot some pool, then he taught me how to drive his car, which was a stick-shift. TOTALLY fun.

I just like when the conversation flows easily and there are no awkward pauses. That's always the best sign.

That sounds amazing! Definitely at the top of my list for perfect dates. I'm glad he's treating you well, you deserve it!

Yours was pretty close to a perfect date of mine. Especially as a second date! Most guys I date don't pick up on exactly what I'd like for a date until a month or so in. Lucky you!

Hope your 3rd date is just as fun. And I'm sure the car hugging/kissing isn't as awkward as you think it is (although I agree, it's hard to get situated sometimes haha) :P

First of all, shit like this makes me happy for you, Jessica. You deserve it. Second, my first date with Sweets was just across the street from Gioco (nice restaurant, btw, props to JohnBoy!) at Zapatista - there's a good date vibe on that block, no? And finally? We're going for a picnic at Millennium this weekend!

Oh my goodness sweetie. I have a HUGE grin on my face right now!!! He sounds so nice and I'm just happy and excited for you:) Wonderful thing to feel what you're feeling...

My parfect date would be, stroll on the beach holding hands, then a little shopping and nice dinner followed by tender kiss... Wait, it sounds like your date.

I can't wait to hear more about your future dates! xo

Aww, I'm so glad you had an awesome date. He sounds like a wonderful guy. Can't wait to hear about date 3!

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that date #2 went well! JohnBoy sounds like a really great guy!!! How awesome!

My perfect date...Would be someplace romantic. Well-thought out (but not by me). It would incorporate a surprise and something that I love.

Ugh. No wonder my husband can never get it right...What I'd really like is for him to be able to read my mind - at the appropriate time! :-)

Ahh you pretty much described my idea of a perfect date! You're a lucky girl, I hope it works out :) Yay!
p.s. Just found your blog recently, I'm loving it, thanks for writing!

What a cute date! This is my first blog of yours to read. And I love it!

I had a bfriend with the alias of JohnBo, partly cause he was from Boston and partly because I'm from the South and we have Beau. :)

jenn said...

yay! i'm so glad it went well - he sounds like quite the catch.

that sounds like a perfect date. 8 years into my relationship with my husband (not even married a year yet), you sometimes forget to do those things. we have date night every friday, but usually just go to dinner. maybe i'll come up with something more creative tonight. like dinner at a NEW restaurant ;)

oooh yay for a good guy! that is awesome he made the first move and woo for date #3.

He sounds like he's heading in the direction of being a true man, but he made a few guffaws:

1. Why would he say he's been thinking about you all week? I know it SOUNDS nice to hear, but honestly it can be a real burn once you realize he's too interested in you. Mystery makes you think about him more.

2. Him telling you that you look nice over and over is also a failure. If you DON'T receive a shitload of compliments, the ones you do receive are worth more. Plus it makes you raise your own standard of looking nice, in order to get his attention more.

Otherwise, class act. Not telling you what Plan B was is a PERFECT thing for a man to do. Also, kissing you early is awesome, I highly recommend it on date #2. That is, if the woman is showing signs of attraction, otherwise I bail early on date #2.

Congrats. Date #3 is even more nerve-wracking since so many people adhere to the sex-on-date-3 in Chicago. Odd, but true.

Don't get nervous.

First of all - OMG, sex on the third date! Talk about pressure!!!

Aw, I loved reading this! I'm glad it went so well and you found a pretty classy guy. I love that whole dating phase...even with the awkward moments. Excited to hear about your third one!

Oops, and I don't really have a perfect date, but my best date? Was probably when I showed up at Steve's apartment (with two bottles of champagne in hand, haha) and he made us a delicious pasta dinner. Then we drank both bottles of wine while watching 300 (yes...) and went to another bonfire party where we drank beers and sipped rum all night. And then we went back to his place and I landed on my face in his bathroom, literally. (But it made for an awesome story for him to tell his parents after!)

Oh my gosh, this sounds SO dreamy! This sounds just perfect to me.

My perfect date with Mister is pretty much the cruise we have coming up- we've been on lots of fun dates over the past 4+ years, so something a little out of the ordinary is going to be fun. Otherwise? A BBQ at home with cold drinks and a movie after is pretty much my perfect night.

Erin said...

Seriously, this makes me giddy just reading about it! I am so happy for you!

Being an old, married woman, my perfect date often involves wandering around Target for an hour, then picking up some ice cream, and snuggling on the couch while watching TV.

A Super Girl said...

Wooo! Date #3!!! Bring it on :-)

As for my perfect date, it really varies. Sometimes, out for drinks at a favorite bar is great. Sometimes home on the couch watching The Sopranos and eating cannoli's (not like this happened last night or anything...) is the way to go.

Millennium Park is the perfect place for a date! :) Let us know how date #3 goes!

Dreamy! I'm loving this JohnBoy already and am so excited to hear that date #2 went well, even if you did spill some chardonnay on your shoe.

Keep us posted on further developments!

How exciting! I love the thrill of the first few dates -- getting to know one another and even those awkward are-you-going-to-kiss-me-now moments! Your second date with JohnBoy sounds like an ideal date.

God, E and I are so boring. I don't even know what our perfect date would be anymore, but I am now inspired to think about that - and demand it.

SQUEEE for you!
