Tampon Girl

After being so emotional during yesterday's inauguration and indulging my desire to chant, "yes we can," I'm going to postpone talking about it and rather discuss something for the ladies: tampons.

People have always felt comfortable sharing and asking me for things. And lately this includes asking me for feminine products, specifically, tampons.

I don't have a problem with people asking me for this (hi, I'm a girl, which means I have a cycle), but I find it adorable that when people need tampons, they think to ask me. Do I have a tampon-like body shape? That's a rhetorical question.

Maybe that is my new superhero name, Tampon Girl (don't worry, Rage Girl still exists.) So, if you're mensing and need something to help, I'm here to save the day! I just hope my cape and outfit isn't red. That's not really my color.

But once you've asked me for tampons and I call in my connections to secure one, I will even deliver the product in a Mission Impossible-like covert way. I can be very discreet and I don't judge. You won't see me running through the halls, happily tossing tampons around, asking if everyone wants one.

Oh and the people I borrow tampons from for my clients probably think I menstruate like four times a month. Wouldn't that be awful? But they may think that it explains my crazy mood swings at times. Wait, I hear someone calling for help, Tampon Girl is off to save the day again!

I guess there isn't really a reader question in this post, but feel free to share if people always ask you for certain things. While I don't always have tampons in my purse, I do carry a lot of other random stuff that seem to help people out in a pinch.

Reader note: Also, I just wanted to apologize for dropping off the comment radar for a few days. I've been working on a big project for work and things are finally slowing down. So forgive my absence and thank you for all the comments too! They make my day, especially when things are totally crazy and I'm beyond stressed out.

when i worked at the concierge desk i was always getting asked for tampons and pads. i ended up keeping them on me whether i was mensing or not.

I have yet to be asked for one of those necessities by my new co-workers in the Acctg Office. I guess not so new anymore since March will be my 1 yr anniversary with them, but its not official until August when I was officially promoted. Messed up, huh???

I pretty much always have tampons on me, I keep them in every purse. I usually have a ton of other crap on me too. In Vegas my friend asked me for advil and band-aids on separate occasions and I had both. I'm well prepared, what can I say?

See, it is nice that people come to you when they're in need. The only time it's annoying? When they CONSTANTLY ask. Because tampons are a bit pricey, and I don't want to be supplying everybody.
But, you know. I'm cheap.

I wish you were in Pittsburgh and at Duquesne this evening! I SOOOOO needed a tampon or a pad.

I stopped using them and switched to a divacup. love love love it!!! I then donated my large box of tampons (from costco!) to the community locker at work. :-)

I have never asked any of my co-workers for a tampon, but I do ask friends, usually though I have one or two in my purse. I carry a lot of random crap as well--needle and thread, bandaids, advil, a couple paper clips, etc.

Good luck with your project at work!

I always carry a few tampons in my purse. Mostly because in my office I am the only one that is still in the age range for needing them.

I'm always asked for safety pins. I keep a small sewing kit in my desk and it's really been handy. That and doublestick tape I keep in my desk. You can fix all sorts of things with doublestick tape!

My friends know to come to me when they need a tampon too but I am far from Tampon Girl. Sometimes I don't have one and I can't find one for my "client". Sometimes it's my last one in my purse and I know I'm gonna need it soon.

I do however ALWAYS have headache medicine so I guess I could be called Excedrin Girl?

In college I had everything, anything someone needed something random,, chances were I had it. I guess it just comes from being a camp counselor and being prepared for anything!

People always ask me for tampons too. I usually carry some in my purse at all times just for that.

Hi! I'm Erin said...

At my old job I was one of the youngest employees and, as such, one of the few people left who actually had a regular cycle. One of my coworkers and I actually became tampon-buddies in that we knew the one of us almost always had one so we knew to ask each other if we were out.

Really strange, especially because I didn't particularly like her.

Yeah, I always carry a few, whether I'm having my cycle or not, just in case.

And this post made me laugh. And I needed that today. Thank you.

It seriously bugs me when people ask if they can borrow a tampon. I do NOT want it back!

i was going to say the exact same thing as Miss Grace, but she beat me to it! Although I find it less annoying and more hysterical.

i always have extras to carry around but in hs i was definitely embarrassed to ask for them from friends and we would joke and call them "presents" instead, haha.

I need a tampon girl in my life. I'm always without one and rummaging around the bathroom trying to find if maybe by chance there is one hidden in this corner or that corner.

I'll go to you next time. Do you ship to NYC from Chicago? :)

I love it! I'm Tampon Girl at my office, too, and I have absolutely NO idea why.

I'm Tampon Girl in my office, too. Somehow people have picked up on the fact that I always have a ready suppy. The reason? One time at my old job I ran out and had to enlist the help of a co-worker. She supplied me with the only thing she had... an OB tampon without an applicator. I was so grossed out I now make SURE never to be without a trusty Tampax... complete WITH applicator. LOL.
