Weekend key learnings and cupcakes

Ah here we are again, another Sunday night. How bittersweet it is. But I have pictures to share! So before we get to that, by popular demand, let's recap things that I learned this weekend.

Key learnings:
  • It's not impolite to over compliment someone on their Lincoln Park mansion, but try not to look like you're casing the place
  • A cheese log is always a solid appetizer
  • Cleaning sucks, but your house/apartment always looks better when it's done
  • Cupcakes make any day better
  • Whenever relationships change, it's always a little sad
  • Telling people that you're knitting legwarmers always gets a good response
  • Being barefoot only feels good on the grass or carpeting
  • Don't say you're sorry unless you at least half mean it
  • No matter how many times you do it, waxing always hurts (especially on sensitive skin)
  • Always take time to "Saturday Night Fever" strut down the street
  • Unlined wool pants are itchy
  • Clothes you can only hand wash are a dealbreaker
  • The best part of opening gifts is watching the recipient's reaction
These are all good things to keep in mind. Especially the strutting down the street. Seriously, shake those hips like Shakira and be sure to give someone the "wink acknowledgement" on the street or point them out so they feel special. It makes someone's day.

Along with these wonderful learnings, two other exciting things happened this weekend - the marathon and cupcakes!

Friday, after my waxing appointment at Nordstrom Spa (where my tech calls me a waxing sissy - it's true), I wandered over to More cupcakes on Delaware for a post-pain treat. Chicago magazine gave it a good write up and bloggy friends have also said good things, so I went in. All I have to say is...wow. The selection wasn't huge but the size of these cupcakes was insane. Here's a picture of the "try more" cupcake, which is chocolate with strawberry icing and chocolate shavings. I looked like a slob trying to eat this, but it was worth it. Divine. Little pricey but since Friday is "treat day," it's worth it :)

Then today was the annual Chicago marathon, which runs literally around my street on the North Side. So since I was trapped, I dragged my butt out there to watch and cheer...with my favorite blueberry muffin of course. I won't lie, it was hotter than h*ll out there but it was really cool to watch everyone run by and in return, clap with encouragement. I got to see some runners dressed in costume (Minnie Mouse and Elvis) and two guys were actually juggling while running. That is talent I'm not remotely capable of. I also went out to cheer on my co-worker Emily, who finished in just over five hours. Congrats Em, you did a great job.

Here are some pictures of the runners. Forgive the bad photo quality - I was shooting directly into the sun!

So tomorrow is Monday and another week begins, did anyone else do something fun/exciting this weekend?

It is always sad when relationships change. That cupcake looks AMAZING!! Do you think they ship to Ohio?

That cupcake looks amazing. I really need to make my way over there and try some. I'm getting jealous reading about it.

I'm a waxing sissy, too. I did it once and haven't gone back.

That cupcake looks like a slice of heaven.

Today was the Long beach marathon, but I did not go watch like you did. Actually my plan today was to go running but I didn't want all the awesome marathoners to see my sad running skills. Yay for your co-worker. Emily is a super cool name.

That cupcake? Looks delicious. I may have to make cupcakes of my own tomorrow just to make this craving go away.

I got a coupon from a spa in the mail, so a waxing sesh is in the cards soon, methinks.

This weekend we rented The Happening, drove around New Hampshire, and ate out (twice).

It's back to work for me tomorrow. Boo.

I went to More cupcakes this week too! It was awesome...too bad my puppy got into the cupcake box and ate them all.

Thanks for reminding me that this was the Chicago Marathon! Ah, it is another marathon that I wish to do ... one day!!!

That cupcake looks amazing.

Also, another fantastic list, particularly about relationships changing and cleaning the house/apartment.

That cupcake is beautiful! I hope it tasted as good as it looked. I am such a waxing sissy, good thing my brows decided to stop being unruly as I don't have to do anything to them anymore!

Glad you had a good weekend!!!

I can't wax, i'm a wuss!! (Even though i had a tattoo)

I probably would have just been a creeper and wathed the runners from my window! It's far less creepy, I think, being on the street and watching.

Ooooh that cupcake is making me HUNGRY! I'm gonna go find food now...

Talking about relationships changing... I went to a friend's wedding this weekend, and as she had invited about two thirds of our group of friends to the formal dinner, and one third not it upset the relations in the group quite a bit.

Apart from the wedding I attended a bellydance workshop (by my former teacher - it was amazing!) and went to my boyfriend's mother's birthday, which was a lot of fun.

Cupcake looks really good!!

Kassandra Zess Pagel and hubby were in Chicago as he ran in the marathon...guess his time was 4 hrs. 30 some min. They had a great time and would consider Chicago as a midwest city to relocate to when the time arrives.

I want to eat that cupcake.

Also - my cousin-in-law, if that's a term, ran the Chicago Marathon this weekend! :)

Yay for runners! (And I'm jealous - getting waxed is great. But I can't afford. Boo.)

That cupcake looks delicious. Now I really want a cupcake...but it's 8:30 on a Monday morning, so I doubt I'll be getting one any time soon!

Want a cupcake. Let's get some this week. And I happen to know of the best place for waxing in the city. Kid you not. I'll give you the info.

I don't buy clothes that are dryclean only, but if it's hand wash, I usually just reinterpret that as "machine wash gently cycle"

That cupcake looks incredible. I want one so badly now!!

I hope you cheered extra hard for that guy in the green shirt. It was clearly his first race. As you're supposed to put the race numbers on the front.

Yes, very hot for the runners. Boo. They need to push the marathon back 1-2 weeks to where it used to be. When the temps were cool and we didn't have to worry about literal meltdowns the day of the race.

That cupcake looks phenom. Just looking at it is pretty much making MY day so I can only imagine how it made yours :)

There is only one word for that cupcake: beautiful.

The only exciting thing I did this weekend was go to a wedding. I mention it because instead of a wedding cake they had cupcakes and they were delish!

i totally need to check out more.

and i have no idea how those runners do it...good for you going out to cheer them on!

I HAVE to get one of those cupcakes!

I totally agree with you about the cleaning, the cheese log, and the strutting. I had a Brie log covered in caramelized walnuts once before, and it was soooooooo good.

I got gypped when I went to More. They didn't have that kind of cupcake there, and it looks so good! I did eat three of them in other flavors, though, for dinner. I'm so bad! But they were delicious! I was over by there again today and I had to resist going inside!

My goal next year is to run in the marathon! Right now, I am running 6 miles 5x/week in just under 1 hour without getting too terribly tired, so hopefully I can do it by then.

Um. My cupcakes did not look like that.

I am so far from gourmet, I wanted to lick the screen.

I want that cupcake. this instant. GET ME IT!

That cupcake looks absolutely heavenly. I need one like that pronto! And I wish my town was as cool as Chicago. :)

It sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I found myself nodding along to a lot of the key learnings, too.

I'm really enjoying the design and layout of your blog. It's a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to
come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?
Great work!
