Candy is my sweet mistress

Since the holidays, I've been having some issues cutting back on the sweets. The issue being that I don't want to. I feel the same way about having to wear pants again to go to work.

Back on track, I can't quit sweets because I love them. Cake, candy, pie, treats, you name it and I want it, and usually I want a handful of them. While I'm usually able to watch portion control and maintain my cravings, I have some candy vices that are like kryptonite and cause me to beeline right to the candy dish.

My brother's candy kryptonite is peanut M&M's. You get a bag of them near him and it's a scene from "when animal's attack." At Christmas, I lured him to sit near me to talk by putting the peanut M&M's within reach. And as I expected, he sat right next to me. *insert evil laugh*

But I can't judge my brother because I'm just as weak in front of temptation. This week, my weakness is Lindt Lindor truffles. A vendor sent them to me and I want to punch that guy in the wiener for tempting me so much.

So here is my list of the candy I cannot avoid. Reader beware, if you put any of the following candy near me, it could get ugly:
  • Plain M&Ms
  • Sweetarts
  • Raisinets (or any chocolate covered raisins)
  • Swedish Fish
  • Frango mint chocolate (the dark chocolate version tastes like Thin Mints)
  • Twix
What candy or sweets are you unable to resist?

I'm a repeat offender when I snack and work on the computer. The handfuls of candy or food seem to subconsciously find it's way to my mouth and subsequently my stomach and hips.

Damn you candy!!! I wish I could quit you!

Never heard of frango, but they sound darn good, guess you haven't run into the Lindt Dark Chocolate version yet ;-)

Mine are: Mounds, Dark chocolate covered raisins, junior mints, spice drops dark chocolate M&M's

I've never heard of frango either. I love sweetarts and peanut m&m's. Oh and occasionally Reeces Pieces.

They have sour candies in Canada called Sour Soothers or Sour Keys and they're sublime. I have them every weekend - I can't go too long without them.

I really wish I could quit candy/sweets altogether, too. They're so good but SO bad.

Pretty much any baked good, I'll fall victim to. An my candy of choice of peanut butter M&Ms.

Turkish Delights! I've only had them once and they are the best thing ever!!! Hershey's with almonds, rolos, snickers, and my mom's rocky road. Oh and anything sour!

I go through phases with candy. I typically favor the gooey, chewy kind. I may be obsessive about Tootsie Rolls one week and Caramels the next. I'm currently shoving Mike & Ikes in my mouth with reckless abandon.

Frangos are chocolate mints with a fudgy center and they're sooo good. Marshall Field's in Chicago used to make them exclusively before Fields was bought by Macy's. I have to agree, anything with peanut butter and chocolate tops my list. I also love pure milk chocolate like a Ghiradelli's chocolate square or Hersey's milk chocolate Bliss candies. Perfect when you're craving something sweet!

Sweetarts are my crack. I eat them so much my mouth hurts for days from the tartness.

Ok now I am so craving them.

mannnn thats the bitch about sweets, once you get in a pattern of having them - you cant stop! but once they are out of your system for a week or two, you don't even think about them anymore.

but if you don't want to quit them...well, don't. maybe you should make yourself sick on those truffles and teach yourself a lesson? i joke, but i may be on to something, eh?

Mmmm! I love chocolate covered raisins. Anything with chocolate really....

AHHHHH HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA I almost peed a little when I read 'punch him in the wiener'...I can't believe you said that, it MADE MY NIGHT!!!

So funny. :)

Lindt truffles are my downfall as well. Any dark chocolate (good quality), really...but Lindt...oh dear. It's a carnage.

i LOVE sweetarts. i realized i was addicted when i couldn't find them in spain ANYWHERE. not even a suitable alternative. my parents must have sent me 10 jumbo size boxes to hold me over. i have 4 boxes in my room right now... oops.

Frango Mints! I always forget other people know about those. Born in the mid-west but growing up in NYC, no one knows about them! But I think now Macy's carries them. I'll have to pick some up, haven't had those in a few years!!

As a self-confessed chocoholic, that makes total sense to me. Except my list isn't just 5 it's limitless. Anything that is snack-like, particularly chocolate and especially if I'm working/at my laptop etc, will get eaten by the bucketload.

Also - yay for plain M&Ms - I don't like the peanut ones.

Those damn truffles get me every time! And they are so bad for you. Basically any good chocolate is my weakness.

peanut M&M's are my weakness too! Its a problem.

I worked at a candy store in my hometown for 5 years where I made chocolates by hand.
Yeah...that's a problem. I never got sick of candy, I got TOTALLY addicted. Like, crack addicted.

Peanut Butter M&M's are FAR superior to plain.

HAHAHAHAHA "I wish I could quit you" Classic. Like your brother I have a hard time staying away from peanut M&Ms... so yummy. Oh and frozen snickers are good too.

I feel the same way! I'm not much of a candy and dessert person. But then the holidays come around and everything changes. It usually takes me a few weeks to break the habit.
My current favorite is Chocolate Covered Rasberry Sticks from Trader Joe's.

I'm not so much a chocolate girl, but sweetarts, spree, jellybellys, lemon heads, those are my kind of candy addiction. Ooh, and smarties. And most tart candies. And...well, crap, now I'm craving candy.

Cheryl said...

Oh I'm a sucker for almost any candy. Almost any. But especially Peanut Butter M&Ms and Almond M&Ms and Cadbury.

Mmmm... Frangos are dreamy. But my personal fave is Good 'N Plenty Licorice Candy. I think I am the only person on the planet who loves them. Nerds Jelly Beans are also super yummy. I think I just love any candy that is crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Mouth watering...

I'm not a candy person, but dessert is still my vice. When I go out to eat, I usually don't order dessert, but for some reason, the past couple weeks, every time I'm out I want dessert...even at places that don't typically have dessert, like, say a dive bar. And the dessert of choice lately? Tiramisu. OMG I can taste it right now.

Clearly, I need help.

i love raisinets too. but my big weakness is three musketeers and reeses pieces, mmmmmmso good!

I love Lindt Lindor truffles too, but I am totally in love with chocolate covered toffee. Yum!

I totally hear you on this! I love, love, love candy. My biggest weakness is Sour Patch Kids. I eat them until my mouth is raw. Bags of them a day. It is disgusting!

And when my mouth is raw, I switch to Peanut Butter M&M's. They soothe the pain!

Man, I LOVE lindor truffles. You want to hear something HORRIBLE??? My flatmate has had a whole box of them just sitting UNTOUCHED in her room . . . for months!!! Seriously! How does she resist???

Other sweets I love? Peanut butter cups are a particular favourite. And there's these lovely truffles, Lily O'Briens Truffilicious, i believe they are called. They are DELICIOUS!

OMG, have you ever had the chocolate covered raisins that the Girl Scouts sell???? SOOOOO Amazing! Seriously, you need to tryy them, and they'll change your mind about ALL other choclate covered raisins!

Frangos - Nummy. I can't resist the peppermint frangos. Usually though I'm a salty person so cheezits and pretzels are my kryptonite.

We would be fabulous candy companions, Jess! The candies you listed as your favs are ones I couldn't care less for. I'm a big fan of the peanut M&Ms, too (I think I could give your brother a run for his money). But my all-time favorite candy has got to be Nerds. Mmm--love 'em!

dark chocolate. anything with chocolate and peanut butter or chocolate with raspberry. i'm not really a big candy person, mostly just chocolate. oh and sour patch kids.

Anonymous said...

I'm good without all but the damn sweetarts. Those and gobstoppers are like crack to me. Oh, and I forgot about Red Vines. Yum.

I have an incredible sweet tooth. While I adore a good cake with a real buttercream icing (none of that fake whipped crap for me), my candy cravings lean toward anything chocolate and peanut butter and Starburst jelly beans. I might have consumed nearly an entire bag since Sunday.

i want to punch all of our vendors in the face for sending all of the junk that they did over the holidays. because it's still here, tempting me everytime i walk into the break room.

heres the thing, i rarely crave or eat candy. except when it's in the break room and i'm bored/procrastinating. ARGH!!! i'm gaining weight just thinking about it!!!

Pez, Heath bars, jolly ranchers, tootsie pops, anything sour, zotz...

again, one more thing we have in common--a ridiculous sweet tooth.

Mounds bars. Frozen Twix. Refrigerated Kit Kat bars. Hot Tamales. Rolos. Around Easter (and now they make Christmas ones too) Cadbury creme eggs.

I'm soooo with you on the Raisinets!!!

Another favorite of mine is 3 Musketeers. :)

I feel this way about popcorn. Not the microwave kind necessarily (though I'll eat it). But movie popcorn...particulary when mixed with raisinettes, or stovetop homemade popcorn with truffle oil. Irresistable.

M&Ms. I like any chocolate really (unadultered chocolate for the most part. nothing with raisins or nuts really does it for me). But I kid you not, I could eat a bag of M&MS (plain or dark chocolate) in a day. Gross.

BUTTERFINGERS BUTTERFINGERS BUTTERFINGERS. I'm not a big citrusy-fruity candy fan (ie: no skittles for me), but I adore chocolate. It's my drug.
